Wanted Man Arrested After Firing at Police

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 51-year-old wanted man was arrested early Wednesday morning after an hours-long standoff during which he fired multiple shots at Grand Junction Police Department officers.

On Tuesday, June 23, at approximately 9:35 p.m., officers located the suspect, who was known to be armed, in a parking lot in the 1600 block of North Avenue. As officers approached, the man retreated into a nearby apartment and barricaded himself inside.

The suspect, identified as Marc Nash, 51, refused to comply with commands to exit, prompting the activation of the Grand Junction Police Department SWAT team. The standoff continued for several hours as negotiators worked to gain compliance.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 24, Nash fired multiple rounds through a window toward officers. Law enforcement officials stated that at no point did officers return fire. Nash was taken into custody just minutes after the shots were fired.

One officer sustained minor injuries during the incident and was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel.

Nash was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he was booked on his outstanding warrant as well as the following new charges:

  • Criminal Attempt to Commit First-Degree Murder (3 Counts)
  • First-Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (3 Counts)
  • Felony Menacing
  • Reckless Endangerment (7 Counts)
  • Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer
  • Refusal to Leave Premises Upon Request of a Peace Officer
  • Prohibited Use of a Weapon
