MESA COUNTY, CO — Governor Jared Polis has declared a State of Emergency as multiple wildfires continue to burn across western Mesa County. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has significantly expanded pre-evacuation orders on Sunday morning.
As of 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, pre-evacuation orders have been extended to include areas south of the Colorado River to BS Road (Glade Park area) and west of the Kingsview subdivision (off Highway 330), including Pollock Canyon Estates to Loma.
Authorities are actively encouraging all residents within the pre-evacuation zones to turn on their irrigation water to help saturate the land around their properties.
Evacuation Resource Center
For residents choosing to proactively self-evacuate from the Snyder-Mesa Fire and surrounding incidents, an evacuation resource center has been established in coordination with the American Red Cross. The center originally opened Saturday night and reopened at 7:00 a.m. Sunday to assist displaced residents.
- Location: Former Faith Heights Church, 600 28 ¼ Road, Grand Junction
- Contact: The public can call 1-800-RED-CROSS for assistance.
Large Animal Sheltering
Residents in the impacted pre-evacuation zones who need assistance sheltering large animals can contact Kyle Carstens, the Mesa County Fairgrounds Manager, directly at (970) 773-1621.
Officials continue to urge the public to avoid the impacted areas as fire and emergency personnel work to contain the rapidly evolving situation.
