
A brush fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. on Highway 50 near the 4600 block, north of a building. Mesa County Fire Authority dispatched Brush 53 and requested mutual aid from Grand Junction Fire (Engine 4); Bureau of Land Management units offered assistance.
Scanner traffic indicated the reporting party was attempting to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher and was concerned about a nearby pile of lumber. The fire was described as smaller than a football field; crews were en route to establish an attack. No injuries were currently reported.
Update: A sheriff deputy on scene is reporting the fire is possibly out. Crews are keeping their brush truck on scene to check for hot spots as an extra precaution due to high fire risk in the area.
