GRAND JUNCTION, CO — Firefighters battled intense heat and heavy fire conditions to contain a house fire on Quail Run Drive Wednesday morning, successfully preventing the flames from spreading to neighboring homes.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire on the 890 block of Quail Run Drive. Callers noted a large column of black smoke visible from the surrounding area.
The first crews on scene initiated an aggressive interior attack through the front entrance but were met with extreme heat and heavy fire. Due to the high volume of fire, incident command transitioned to a defensive strategy, pivoting resources to protect nearby trees and adjacent residential properties. Firefighters were successful in containing the blaze to the original property.
Operating in extreme summer temperatures, crews required additional support to sustain the effort. The Grand Junction Fire Department Logistics Team quickly delivered additional drinking water and extra self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air cylinders to the scene, allowing suppression operations to continue seamlessly.
The fire was brought under control shortly after noon. Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 1:30 p.m. to extinguish remaining hot spots and monitor for any signs of rekindling. No injuries were reported.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Grand Junction Fire Department.
