CLIFTON, CO — A 58-year-old Grand Junction man was arrested Sunday after an attempted business burglary led to a foot chase and a Taser deployment.

On July 5, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a man attempting to open the doors of a closed business on the 3200 block of F Road in Clifton. As deputies arrived in the area, they spotted a suspect matching the description running west on F Road.

A deputy exited their patrol vehicle and initiated a foot pursuit. A sergeant joined the chase in a vehicle with lights and sirens activated. As the fleeing suspect approached the I-70 Business loop, the sergeant exited the vehicle and deployed a Taser, rendering the man immobile. He was then taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Steven Allen, 58, of Grand Junction.

During a search of Allen, deputies discovered suspected methamphetamine. Investigators also identified Allen as the suspect in a separate shoplifting attempt that occurred earlier at the same F Road business.

Allen was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:

  • Second-Degree Burglary of a Building (Class 4 Felony)
  • Criminal Attempt (Class 5 Felony)
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Drug Misdemeanor 1)
