GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Grand Junction Police Department has confirmed that a fatal shooting early Sunday morning near N 13th Street and Walnut Avenue was a suicide, and no foul play is suspected.
While initial scanner reports of a gunshot prompted a heavy police presence and law enforcement response, authorities clarified that officers were responding to an individual in crisis.

Emergency crews responded with lights and sirens after reports of a gunshot shortly after 12:30 a.m. to the 1300 block of Walnut Avenue.
Officers located a male subject on the ground with a gunshot wound his head, and radio traffic described a suspect seen with a pistol who possibly fled the area in a vehicle. Police conducted a safety sweep of the residence, maintained a perimeter, and had a Victims Advocate and ambulance crews staged. Officers remain on scene investigating.
The Mesa County Coroner was also dispatched.
