GRAND JUNCTION, CO — Firefighters quickly contained an early morning structure fire at Reynolds Polymer on Wednesday after an automatic sprinkler system and a rapid crew response kept the flames isolated to a compressor room.
On Wednesday, August 5, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at Reynolds Polymer, located at 607 Hollingsworth Street.
The reporting party told dispatchers that the fire was located in a compressor room and that they had attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Engine 3 was the first company to arrive on the scene and initiated a fire attack using a hose line. Crews reported that the building’s automatic sprinkler system had successfully activated and was helping to hold the fire in check. Engine 6 arrived shortly afterward and was assigned to support the building’s sprinkler system by establishing a dedicated water supply to the fire protection system in the affected area.
Additional firefighters conducted a search of the building to ensure the fire had not extended beyond the compressor room, while Truck 1 accessed the roof to check for upward fire extension.
Firefighters officially brought the blaze under control by approximately 5:15 a.m. Crews remained on the scene to extinguish remaining hot spots, verify the fire had not spread beyond its point of origin, and assist with overhaul operations.
No injuries were reported. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
