A brush fire was reported around 2:35 p.m. Aug. 25 on the south side of I-70 between mile markers 65 and 66 after a reported lightning strike. Firefighters arriving in the area reported a fast-moving fire covering approximately two to three acres and moving west due to strong winds, with black smoke visible.
Responders were directed to access the fire from Highway 6 and 24 through a gate east of mile marker 66. Law enforcement was also responding, and fire officials were coordinating additional resources, including possible air support from BLM.
