MESA COUNTY, CO — Mesa County Public Works has announced plans for a comprehensive $2 million reconstruction and improvement project on a two-mile stretch of B 1/2 Road, prioritizing long-term sustainability over temporary fixes.
The project, which spans from 30 Road to 32 Road, was identified as a top priority requiring significant repairs during a recent Community Survey.
Initially, county officials considered a $300,000 short-term repair targeting a severely degraded section east of 31 Road. However, following a joint site evaluation by Road and Bridge personnel and Engineering staff, the Public Works team determined that combining available Highway Users Tax Fund resources with Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funding would yield a much more effective solution.
Rather than piecemeal repairs, the newly expanded $2 million project scope will cover the entire two-mile stretch and include:
- Targeted structural reconstruction of severely degraded sections
- Shoulder widening to enhance roadway safety
- A full asphalt overlay across the corridor
The project has been incorporated into the recommended six-year CIP budget, which is set to be submitted to the Board of County Commissioners for approval later this year. If approved, engineering design work is slated to begin in 2027, with full construction expected to follow in 2028.
