GRAND JUNCTION, CO — Two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly breaking into vehicles in a Grand Junction neighborhood and fleeing from law enforcement.

On October 7, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Grand Junction Police Department officers responded to reports of thefts in the 3000 block of Oakwood Drive.

According to investigators, two masked male juveniles were breaking into vehicles when a resident confronted them. The suspects fled the neighborhood on foot.

Grand Junction Police officers, assisted by Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies, located the juveniles, who then fled from law enforcement. Both were eventually taken into custody and found in possession of debit cards that did not belong to them.

The juveniles were transported to Grand Mesa Youth Services on the following charges:

  • Criminal Possession of a Financial Device (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Second-Degree Criminal Trespass (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Theft (Petty Offense)

One juvenile was also charged with Illegal Possession of Marijuana by an Underage Person, a petty offense.

Police credited the resident’s prompt report with helping officers apprehend the suspects and reminded residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables to reduce opportunities for theft.
