
Fire crews are on scene awaiting Xcel Energy crews in the area of Lois St & F Road in Clifton. The natural gas main line was hit by a construction crew digging. Witnesses are reporting smelling gas over a half mile away from the incident.
Update 10:30 a.m.: Sheriff’s office is prepping for the evacuation of Clifton Elementary due to wind direction and strong smell of gas in the building. Xcel will be shutting off power in the area around Lois and F Road for safety reasons.
Update: 11:00 a.m.: D51 will be evacuating Clifton Elementary students to Grand Mesa Middle School. Additional sheriff and student resource officers have been dispatched to both schools for safety. Grand Mesa Middle will be placed on shelter-in-place when Clifton students arrive. D51 is making additional food arrangements to make sure all students are fed.
UPDATE 11:50 A.M. (Sheriff’s Office) – Evacuations for residents in the area of Lois Street and F Road have been lifted. Parents and guardians of Clifton Elementary Students will be notified of reunification plans via District 51.
