Vehicle Accident Involving CSP, Area of I-70, Hwy 50, 22 Rd

Hit-and-run accident involving a Colorado State Patrol vehicle that occurred on I-70 at exit 26 near Highway 50. A white Dodge Ram truck hit a CSP vehicle and then fled the scene across the I-70 median and exited onto Highway 50 near Love’s Truck Stop on 22 Road. A CSP officer held the truck occupants at gunpoint until everyone was taken into custody. A large police response was summoned to the area during the incident.

CSP officer is reporting no injuries from the crash. Grand Junction Police will be handling the accident report. Traffic in the area is reduced to one lane while police investigate. A tow truck was requested for the Colorado State Patrol Vehicle.

On March 5, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash into a Colorado State Patrol (CSP) vehicle.

A truck entering westbound I70 near the HWY 6 and 50 exit collided with a Colorado State Patrol vehicle that was traveling westbound. The driver of the truck exited the interstate, where another Colorado State Patrol trooper contacted the driver at the intersection of 22 Road and HWY 6 and 50. Shortly after, officers from the Grand Junction Police Department arrived and took over the investigation.

No injuries were reported, and alcohol is not considered a factor.

Destiny Gonzales (age 22) was arrested and released on a summons for the following charges:

  • Reckless Driving
  • Operated Vehicle with Unsafe Tires
  • Failure to Notify Police of Accident
  • Failure to Give Aid/Info after Damaging Another Vehicle

The Grand Junction Police Department considers this to be an isolated incident. This crash is under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
