Plane Diverted to GJT Over Passenger Assault

A Breeze Air flight traveling from Norfolk, VA to Los Angeles, CA was diverted to the Grand Junction airport due to a passenger assaulting other travelers on the plane. Police and EMS crews are meeting the plane at the airport. A passenger on the plane was reportedly restrained by other travelers, broke free, and is swinging an object around threatening people. An ambulance was requested to standby to check multiple passengers for possible injuries.

Update: Police boarded the plane at 11:38 a.m. and swiftly took the suspect into custody. Officers are speaking with witnesses and gathering video of the incident. GJPD is contacting the FBI to respond to assist with the investigation.

Update 4:30 p.m.: The incident involved an intoxicated male passenger who became agitated, shouting racist slurs at airline staff while brandishing a skateboard. Airline personnel attempted to restrain the man twice, but he managed to break free both times. No physical assaults or injuries were reported during the incident.
