Shoplifters Car Won’t Start, Gets Caught by Police

Police from Grand Junction and Mesa County Sheriffs Departments responded to the new Dollar General on 30 and E Roads around 11:45am on Friday, 1/12/24. Initial reports from Dollar General staff to 911 stated a black male and white female stole $300 worth of merchandise from the store, and when attempting to flee their vehicle would not start. Staff reported the license plate of the vehicle to 911 dispatchers, who informed responding police that the car was reported stolen.

One suspect according to scanner audio is:

  • Beverly Coon, 44 of Grand Junction

Police arriving on scene held at least 1 individual at gun point until they were able to be safely detained. Coon has multiple outstanding warrants.
