Shooting Update: GJPD Arrests a Man for Attempted Murder

From the Grand Junction Police Department:

Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to the area of N 12th Street and Patterson Road for a report of shooting on 07/27/24, at approximately 8:00 p.m. An adult male was driving northbound on N 12th Street when he discharged his firearm towards the rear of a passing vehicle driven by a person known to him. There were no injuries as a result of the shooting. Officers contacted the suspect in the area of 27 ยผ Road and the desert a short time later and took him into custody without incident. Kyle Smith, age 27, was arrested and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Attempted First Degree Murder (2 counts)
  • Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (4 counts)
  • Reckless Endangerment (4 counts)
  • Prohibited Use of a Weapon (4 counts)
  • Domestic Violence

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the community. The investigation remains active and there is no further information available at this time.
