Lower Valley Fire District crews responded to a paragliding accident in a remote section of their western district, where a patient required urgent rescue and medical attention.
According to LVFD, crews stabilized the injured paraglider at the scene before arranging an airlift to a local trauma center aboard CareFlight 3 of the Rockies.
The rescue required a coordinated rope operation in rugged terrain, with assistance from Mesa County Search and Rescue. Officials credited the seamless teamwork between LVFD, Search and Rescue, and CareFlight for the successful outcome.
“This was a great example of multi-agency teamwork saving a life,” LVFD said in a statement.
The patient’s current condition has not been released. Radio traffic suggest injuries were not life-threatening, but fairly moderate.
