
CLIFTON, Colo. — As of 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office investigators say the investigation into the shooting deaths on the 400 block of Cottonwood Lake Drive remains active. The incident occurred late night on October 31st.
Because many of the individuals involved are juveniles, state law limits what the Sheriff’s Office can release about witnesses or persons of interest.
What investigators are asking for:
- Community members with information or any video from the area are urged to come forward.

What happened (timeline recap):
- 11:50 p.m., Oct. 31: Deputies responded to multiple reports of people shot at a home on the 400 block of Cottonwood Lake Drive, just south of D 3/4 Road.
 - Deputies located two victims with serious injuries and began CPR and other lifesaving measures.
 - Clifton Fire Protection District transported both victims to an area hospital.
 - 12:50 a.m., Nov. 1: Both victims were pronounced deceased; the case is now a double-homicide investigation.
 - Preliminary information indicates the shooting followed a house party at the residence, with multiple rounds fired by a suspect or suspects.
 - The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death and release the victims’ identities.
 
What remains unknown:
The Sheriff’s Office has not released suspect descriptions, a motive, or the ages/identities of the victims. Additional details will be released as appropriate and permitted under juvenile privacy laws.
