PALISADE, Colo. — A missing child was found safe Sunday morning after taking a golf cart on a slow-moving ride that drew a multi-agency search across Palisade and Grand Junction, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called at 7:55 a.m. to the 600 block of Brentwood Drive for a report of a lost child. With help from the Palisade Police Department, officers canvassed the area and issued a reverse 911 alert to residents. Minutes after that alert ended, a caller reported seeing the child on a golf cart near the 100 block of West 1st Street. A second reverse 911 widened the search area and noted the cart.
As tips came in about the child’s changing direction of travel, a drone was launched to assist. Deputies, aided by Grand Junction Police, spotted the golf cart heading north on 29 Road. A deputy was able to step into the slow-moving cart and bring it to a stop at about 9:15 a.m.
No one was hurt. The child was released to guardians, and the golf cart was returned to its owner. Because of the child’s age, no further information will be released, the sheriff’s office said, while thanking residents and assisting agencies for their help.
