An electrical fire was reported at a residence on Papago Street near B 1/2 Road and Frontier Street in Orchard Mesa. Caller reported the ceiling around a burned out light was hot. No smoke or flames seen. Grand Junction Fire Department is on scene investigating.

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — At 1:32 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on the 200 block of Papago Street. The resident called 9-1-1 after an electrical light burned out and a burning odor was detected on the second floor of the home.
Firefighters entered the residence with a water can and tools to access the ceiling. Upon opening the ceiling, crews found heat, smoldering insulation, and a heavily charred roof truss. A salvage tarp was placed to protect belongings as the crew worked. No active flames were present, though light smoke remained in the attic.
Four adults, two children, and one dog were displaced. No injuries were reported.
This incident underscores the importance of calling the fire department anytime a fire occurs, no matter how small, to ensure it is fully extinguished and does not rekindle.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. The Grand Junction Police Department assisted with traffic control and scene safety.
