Apparent shooting reported at about 7:28 a.m. in the emergency room bay at the VA Medical Center near North Avenue. Police and fire units responded after administrative staff reported a male with a self inflicted gunshot wound. VA security located the patient and secured and disarmed a firearm on scene.
Radio traffic indicated the male patient was not conscious and had a faint pulse when crews arrived; resuscitation efforts were started. Later transmissions said a physician pronounced the male deceased and the incident appeared to be self-inflicted. Fire units were cleared and the scene remained with police.
