Disturbance, Walmart, North Ave & 28 3/4 Rd

At approximately 4:49 p.m., police responded to a harassment in progress and a physical fight reported at the Walmart on North Avenue (2881 North Ave). Law enforcement units were on scene near the front door, directly south of the main entrance, with a patrol car displaying emergency lights.

Radio traffic described a white male, about 5’10” and medium build, wearing a Carhartt jacket and dark jeans, who was reported to be intoxicated and had been in an employee-only smoking area; no weapons were observed. Transmissions indicated one officer was initially reported injured and later two officers were reported hurt. An ambulance and an EMS squad were sent to the scene. The suspect was tasered by police.

Three total ambulance were dispatched. One for the suspect, and two for the officers injured while detaining the suspect.

Update: In a press release, police stated “Two officers sustained injuries during the encounter and were transported to a local hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.”
