Shortly after 7:00 p.m., Grand Junction police responded to reports of a truck that hit a median and struck a light pole near Del Taco on Highway 6 and 50. Dispatchers said the pole was possibly unstable.
Callers described an older-model Chevy pickup with mixed colors — a red front, tan doors and white sides — and damaged wheels. The truck reportedly continued westbound and was later located disabled in the Hobby Lobby parking lot. An older white male in his 60s was seen exiting the vehicle, removing something from the hood and throwing it into the parking lot.
Officers are in contact with the male driver who was least seen laying down in the parking lot next to his truck.
Update: Fire crews determined the light pole is stable and will be repaired by city streets crew. They also checked the pole next to it that was downed in a previous accident to make sure it was not in the roadway. Officers suspect the driver is impaired.
