Grand Junction Police responded at about 2:49 p.m. to Dos Rios Playground near 2599 Dos Rios Drive for a report of two males with handguns. Units on scene reported the subjects were located near the splash pad and pavilion.
Both suspects were quickly detained by officers. Radio traffic never confirmed if the weapons were fake or real.
Suspects were described two white males in their mid-20s, possibly homeless — one in a black jacket carrying a backpack and the other in tan clothing — who had handguns that were not pointed at anyone. A witness said the weapons were at times placed on a table and that the men had attempted to approach juveniles; no shots or injuries were reported.
