A brush fire was reported near the Porta Mesa (Orchard Mesa) pedestrian bridge and Eagle Rim Park after multiple callers reported a large column of black smoke. Fire and EMS crews, including brush units and Battalion 1, plus local law enforcement, were dispatched to the southeast side of the pedestrian bridge.
Callers said numerous explosions were heard, possibly from propane tanks at a large homeless camp. Responders on scene described the fire as roughly 20 feet in diameter, burning heavy fuels and slowly moving; crews were advised the best access is from the east/northeast side of Eagle Rim Park. Radio traffic also indicated a white male dressed all in black was seen running through the Eagle Rim skate park away from the fire.
Fire and brush crews on scene are reporting they currently have the fire contained and are working to fully extinguish.
Details are based on live scanner traffic and may change as official information is released.
