
GRAND JUNCTION, CO — Two men have been arrested on attempted murder and arson charges following an incident early Wednesday morning on North 26th Street.
At approximately 1:40 a.m. on February 4, 2026, the Grand Junction Police and Fire Departments responded to a residential fire in the 500 block of N 26th Street. Upon arrival, crews found that the residents had already extinguished the fire. The homeowner was evaluated for minor injuries.
Following an investigation, detectives determined the cause to be arson. Authorities allege that two males broke windows at the residence and threw incendiary devices inside.


Later that day, police arrested Rudolfo Castillo Jr., 37, and Benjamin Alfaro, 34. Both were booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder
- First Degree Arson
- Conspiracy
- Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device
Castillo faces an additional charge of Domestic Violence.
The Grand Junction Police Department stated they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the public. The investigation remains active.
