Mesa County has announced the temporary closure of Clifton Nature Park and the Riverfront Trail from February 17 through February 19 to facilitate the safe removal of tamarisk trees. Crews from Mesa County Noxious Weed and Pest and Mesa County Trails will be using chainsaws and a wood chipper to cut, chip, and transport the invasive vegetation along the southern and eastern pathways.
The closure is necessary to protect the public from hazards such as falling debris and active equipment operations, ensuring the safety of pets, cyclists, pedestrians, and other users. Advance signage will be posted to notify visitors, and the park and trail are slated to reopen on February 20 after 5:30 p.m. once the work is completed.
This maintenance project is part of broader efforts to manage invasive species and preserve safe, accessible trails for the community.
