Two Arrested on Drug and Incendiary Device Charges

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — Two people were arrested late Tuesday night after police discovered drugs and an altered firework inside a recreational vehicle on Pitkin Avenue.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on February 10, 2026, the Grand Junction Police Department executed a search warrant on an RV parked in the 200 block of Pitkin Avenue.

Inside, officers contacted Landon Melquist, 45, and Katie McClaugherty, 35. A search of the vehicle revealed suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and an incendiary device described as an “altered firework.”

The Grand Junction Bomb Squad responded to the scene to safely secure the device.

Both suspects were booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
  • Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Melquist was also booked on an unrelated outstanding warrant. Police believe this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.
