MESA COUNTY, CO — The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has released a summary of several patrol arrests made between March 5 and March 7, highlighting the agency’s collaboration with local law enforcement partners.

Stolen Vehicle and Crash

  • On March 5, 2026, deputies investigating a stolen vehicle report discovered the car had been towed from a recent crash scene.
  • The Colorado State Patrol had already issued the driver, identified as 35-year-old Kyle Hayhurst of Grand Junction, a summons for DUI, speeding, and other traffic offenses.
  • Deputies located Hayhurst at a local hospital where he was receiving treatment. After receiving medical clearance, he was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on a Failure to Appear warrant and 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft (Felony 4).

Erratic Driving Leads to DUI in Clifton

  • Just before midnight on March 6, 2026, deputies stopped an erratic driver in the 3200 block of F Road in Clifton, at the same time dispatch received a citizen report about a possible intoxicated driver.
  • The driver, 22-year-old Jayla Chavez of Mesa, was arrested without incident.
  • She was booked on charges for Driving Under the Influence, Failing to Display Head Lamps, and Failing to Drive in a Single Lane.

DUI Arrest in Grand Junction

  • At approximately 1:45 a.m. on March 7, 2026, a traffic stop in the 500 block of 29 1/4 Road in Grand Junction led to the arrest of David Cervantes, 23, of Westminster.
  • Cervantes, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was reported to have two prior DUI convictions.
  • He was booked on charges including Misdemeanor DUI, Open Container, Driving Under Restraint (Alcohol), Improper Turn, and Driving Without Headlamps.

Mack Burglary In-Progress

  • At approximately 4:20 p.m. on March 7, 2026, deputies responded to a burglary in progress in the 1500 block of 10 Road in Mack, where a homeowner reported a neighbor had entered his residence without permission.
  • Due to the remote location, two Fruita Police Department officers and one Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer arrived first to separate the individuals.
  • Nathan Folkestad, 40, of Mack, was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Burglary of a Dwelling (Felony 4), 3rd Degree Assault (Misdemeanor 1), and a Failure to Appear warrant.
