An armed robbery was reported around 6:45 p.m. in the area of the 29 Mile Apartments on Orchard Avenue near 29 1/4 Road. Mesa County Sheriff deputies and Grand Junction police responded after callers said a man produced a handgun and stole a youth’s shoes.
Dispatch described the suspect vehicle as a camouflage green Jeep Wrangler heading south on 29 1/4 Road toward Bookcliff Middle School with children reportedly inside. Officers tracked the vehicle into the area of 15th Street and Elm Avenue; officers attempted a priority stop. Radio traffic indicated the driver refused to exit the vehicle, both hands were visible, and a child was believed to be in the vehicle but had not been seen.
Update: Suspect was tasered and taken into custody. Police are in contact with the children that were robbed and their parents.
