Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Arrest

CLIFTON, CO — A routine traffic stop early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old Grand Junction man after deputies discovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.

Just before 1 a.m. on March 16, 2026, deputies on patrol conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of Irwin Street in Clifton. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as Steven Moore, 45, was found to have outstanding warrants and could not provide valid vehicle insurance.

During their initial contact with Moore, deputies observed hypodermic needles in plain view through the vehicle’s window. A subsequent search of the car yielded additional needles, drug paraphernalia, and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Moore was arrested without incident and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Schedule 3-5 (Felony 4)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Petty Offense)
  • Fugitive Other Jurisdiction Warrant
  • Probation Violation
  • No Insurance in Possession (Traffic Offense)
  • Vehicle Had Defective/No Brake Lights (Traffic Offense)

According to authorities, Moore has a criminal history related to narcotics that dates back to the year 2000.
