MESA COUNTY, CO — Lower Valley Fire crews quickly extinguished a semi-truck fire on Interstate 70 early Thursday morning. At approximately 6:14 a.m. on March 26, 2026, firefighters were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire near Mile Marker 9 on I-70. Multiple units from the Lower Valley Fire District responded to the scene alongside the Colorado State Patrol.
Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control and keep the incident contained to the immediate area. The Colorado State Patrol assisted by temporarily shutting down the roadway to protect the emergency responders working on the active highway.
Following the incident, fire officials praised the teamwork between the agencies and issued a public safety reminder. Stressing that working on active roadways is one of the most dangerous aspects of their job, the fire department is urging all motorists to slow down and move over when approaching emergency scenes.
