Man Arrested for Arson After Setting Fire Near Walgreens

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 41-year-old man with a history of arson was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly setting fire to a trash compactor adjacent to a local Walgreens.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on March 25, 2026, the Grand Junction Police Department responded to the Walgreens located at 2900 North Avenue. Officers were dispatched to assist the Grand Junction Fire Department following reports of smoke coming from the exterior of the building.

First responders arrived on the scene to discover an active fire burning under a trash compactor next to the business. The store was evacuated as a precaution after smoke began to filter inside. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames, and no injuries were reported during the incident.

Early investigations indicated that the fire may have been intentionally set. Officers located a man nearby with a known history of arson who they suspected was involved. Through further investigation, police developed probable cause and took the suspect, identified as Zachary Stigall, 41, into custody.

Stigall was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:

  • First Degree Arson
  • Second Degree Criminal Trespass
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
