GJPD Arrests Man for Strangulation and Kidnapping

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 34-year-old man was arrested over the weekend on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and strangulation, following an extensive domestic violence investigation by the Grand Junction Police Department.

The investigation began on March 26, 2026, when officers received a report of an assault occurring in the 2500 block of Madison Avenue.

As authorities looked into the case, they uncovered a history of abuse between an adult male and female. Police allege the suspect physically assaulted the victim on several occasions and prevented her from leaving the residence. According to investigators, the incidents also took place in the presence of a child.

After developing probable cause, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as Derrick Madson, 34. On Saturday, April 4, officers located Madson and took him into custody without incident.

Madson was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:

  • Second-Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury by Strangulation
  • Second-Degree Kidnapping
  • Third-Degree Assault
  • Harassment (Strike, Shove, Kick, or Physical Contact)
  • Child Abuse (Negligence, No Injury)
  • Second-Degree Criminal Tampering
  • Domestic Violence
