Man Arrested for Assaulting Juvenile and Deputy

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 48-year-old Grand Junction man was arrested late Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a juvenile and later attacking a Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputy during his arrest.

On May 3, 2026, at approximately 11:57 p.m., deputies responded to a reported assault at a residence in the 3000 block of Market Way. Upon arrival, deputies contacted a juvenile male who had sustained obvious physical injuries. The juvenile detailed an altercation involving an adult male inside the home.

Deputies identified the suspect as Allen Yarbrough, 48, and contacted him at the residence. When deputies informed Yarbrough he was under arrest, he began to actively resist. During the ensuing struggle, Yarbrough allegedly punched and attempted to strangle the arresting deputy.

A second deputy deployed a taser to subdue Yarbrough and end the altercation. Yarbrough was medically cleared by emergency medical staff at the scene before being transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility.

The arresting deputy sustained minor injuries during the incident but did not require on-scene medical attention.

Yarbrough was booked on the following charges:

  • Second-Degree Assault on a Police Officer or Firefighter (Felony 4)
  • Second-Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury by Strangulation (Felony 4)
  • Third-Degree Assault (Misdemeanor 1)
  • Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor 2)
