Suspect Arrested After Assault & Shooting

MESA COUNTY, CO — A 30-year-old man was arrested Thursday night following a multi-agency investigation into an assault with a firearm in Fruita and a subsequent shooting incident on Highway 6 and 50.

On May 28, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Fruita Police Department responded to a reported assault involving a firearm in the 1000 block of Cedar Way in Fruita. According to investigators, the suspect struck another male with a gun during a confrontation before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

A short time later, the Grand Junction Police Department was contacted to assist with a related incident in the 2400 block of Highway 6 and 50. Authorities determined the suspect, while traveling on the highway, brandished the firearm at another individual known to him and fired several rounds into the air.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the suspect’s vehicle near 33 Road and F Road and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect, identified as Isaiah Eastman, 30, was transported to the Grand Junction Police Department for questioning, where detectives developed probable cause for his arrest.

Eastman was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:

  • Menacing – Real/Simulated Weapon (Three Counts)
  • Second-Degree Assault
  • Prohibited Use of a Weapon
  • Child Abuse – Negligence – No Injury (Two Counts)
  • Harassment
