2 Arrested for Defrauding At-Risk Adult

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 51-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were arrested Tuesday following a months-long investigation into a fraudulent scheme that cost an at-risk adult more than $100,000.

On January 22, the Grand Junction Police Department received a report of fraud involving an at-risk adult.

During the investigation, detectives determined that two individuals had engaged in a fraudulent scheme against the victim, resulting in significant financial losses exceeding $100,000. Investigators developed probable cause to charge the suspects, identified as Jason Donovan Cawood, 51, and Jennifer Leigh Cawood, 48, and arrest warrants were issued on June 1.

On June 2, law enforcement located both suspects and took them into custody. They were transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:

  • Crimes Against At-Risk Person(s) Theft (Class 3 Felony)
  • Theft (Class 4 Felony)
  • Identity Theft (66 Counts, Class 4 Felony)
  • Forgery (11 Counts, Class 5 Felony)
