Vehicle vs House, Area of Texas Ave & 29 Rd

Yellow vehicle drove into the front of a house on 29 Rd by Texas Ave. Car was smoking after impact and prompted a large fire department response. Police located the vehicle occupants who fled the scene on foot. The driver was held at either gun / taser point until he was successfully detained by police. A male was seen crawling out of one of the homes windows with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. He also fled the scene.

From the Grand Junction Police Department:

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to the area of Kennedy Avenue and 29 Road for a vehicle that crashed into a house. Phillip Ruiz, 52, intentionally drove a gold 2002 Chevy Malibu into the porch and fled the scene. The residence was occupied, but there were no injuries.

Phillip was arrested and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following and other charges:

  • Attempted Vehicular Assault
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Driving under the Influence

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community. This is an active investigation and there is no further information at this time.
