Brush Fire, Connected Lakes Near Dike Rd

Fire crews responded around 8:20 p.m. after multiple callers reported smoke at Connected Lakes near Dyke Road and Riverside Parkway. Units including a brush truck, Truck 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched and were reported en route.

Callers from the Bananas and Riverside Parkway area and near the River City Sportsplex reported visible smoke; one update described the fire as larger than a football field with five separate spots and possibly intentionally set. Scanner traffic also indicated a request for law enforcement to respond.

UPDATE: Further calls to dispatch place the fire behind Bananas on the north side of the river. BLM crews requested for mutual aid. Air resources are unavailable after dusk.

Update 9:40 p.m.: Responders have the fire fire under control. Hand crews from Grand Junction Fire Department and BLM are working to fully extinguish. Radio traffic indicates crews have enough man power and other brush units are starting to return to their stations.
