A two-vehicle crash was reported shortly after 11:50 10:50 a.m. near Ute Avenue and South 11th Street. Grand Junction police and fire/EMS units responded with lights and sirens.
Radio traffic indicated a yellow truck and a black car were reported possibly racing prior to the crash. The yellow truck reportedly went into a yard and hit a tree. At least one occupant was reported not conscious but breathing with a possible head injury, with serious injuries.
Law enforcement and fire/EMS remain on scene and Ute Avenue is closed at South 13th Street. Police are speaking with dozens of bystanders that witnessed the crash.

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — One person suffered life-threatening injuries Friday morning after two vehicles reportedly racing at high speeds lost control and crashed on Ute Avenue.
On July 24, at approximately 10:50 a.m., first responders with the Grand Junction Police Department and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a serious injury crash in the 1200 block of Ute Avenue.
Prior to the collision, 911 dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center received reports of two vehicles racing in the area. A preliminary investigation by police determined that both vehicles were traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when the drivers lost control and crashed.
One driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second driver was evaluated at the scene by Grand Junction Fire Department personnel.
The Grand Junction Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash.
