Brush Fire, Mile 45 on I-70

Fire crews responded around 8:15 a.m. to a reported weed fire along the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 45. Initial reports placed the fire near mile marker 44, and multiple callers reported flames along the side of the interstate. Palisade-area fire crews responded with lights and sirens, and law enforcement was requested for traffic control.

Crews arriving on scene reported an approximately 50-yard fire with a moderate rate of spread. The fire was being handled by responding crews, and additional assistance was canceled. Firefighters requested law enforcement expedite their response to assist with traffic control after one of their vehicles was almost hit.

Brush crews are working to extinguish the fire. The fire was started by a box truck hitting a guard rail.
