Man Arrested After Trespassing and Foot Pursuit

CLIFTON, CO — A 31-year-old Clifton man was arrested Monday after allegedly trespassing on a property, fleeing from deputies through multiple backyards, and being found in possession of illegal drugs.

On August 10, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a trespassing report in the 3200 block of F Road in Clifton. A male subject was reportedly refusing to leave the property despite multiple requests.

When deputies attempted to contact the male, he took off running southbound, jumping through multiple backyards as he fled. Deputies quickly established a perimeter in the area and, following a short foot pursuit, successfully detained the suspect in the 3200 block of E 1/2 Road.

The suspect, identified as Enrique Chavez, 31, of Clifton, was taken into custody. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Chavez was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges, in addition to active warrants from other jurisdictions:

  • Unlawful Possession of <4G Controlled Substance (Drug Misdemeanor 1)
  • Violation of a Protection Order (Misdemeanor 1)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Drug Petty Offense)
  • Warrants from Other Jurisdictions
