GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 23-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly severely injuring an at-risk adult and subsequently attacking police officers during his apprehension.
On Wednesday, September 9, at approximately 5:55 a.m., Grand Junction Police Department officers were dispatched to the 700 block of 26 1/2 Road following a report of an altercation.
According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Miles Costello, 23, was involved in a verbal dispute with individuals inside a residence, including an at-risk adult. The argument escalated into a physical assault, during which Costello allegedly threatened to kill one of the individuals. The at-risk adult sustained serious bodily injuries during the attack and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Costello fled the residence before authorities arrived but was located a short distance away. When officers attempted to contact him, Costello became physically uncooperative, kicking and spitting at officers before ultimately being taken into custody.
Costello was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charges:
- Crimes Against At-Risk Persons – Second-Degree Assault
- Second-Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury
- Second-Degree Assault of a Police Officer While in Custody
- Obstruction of Telephone or Telegraph Service
- Resisting Arrest
- Harassment
- Violation of a Protection Order
- Criminal Mischief
