Fire crews responded about 3:59 p.m. to Grand Junction High School at 1400 North 5th Street for a reported fire in the downstairs theater. The fire was out before crews arrived, but smoke remained in the building and the school was evacuated.
Crews accessed the theater through the south-side bus loop and worked to ventilate the basement area. Radio traffic indicated an overheated iron had caused the fire and was removed from the building. No injuries were reported in the scanner traffic.
