WHITEWATER, CO — A 56-year-old Montrose man was arrested Saturday evening after allegedly pointing a pistol at a vehicle carrying two adults and two children while riding a motorcycle on Highway 50.
On September 26, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a motorcyclist threatening a passing motorist with a gun between Grand Junction and Whitewater.
Deputies located the victim’s vehicle and spoke with the occupants, who described the motorcyclist aggressively approaching their car and brandishing a weapon. According to the report, the rider pointed the gun at the car while riding alongside it before re-holstering the weapon and speeding ahead.
Using descriptions of the rider and his passenger, deputies located the motorcycle near mile marker 49 on Highway 50 and conducted a high-risk traffic stop.
Deputies recovered a pistol from the rider, identified as Michael Johnson, 56, of Montrose, and took him into custody.
Johnson was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charge:
- Menacing with a Real or Simulated Weapon (Four Counts, Felony 5)
