GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 20-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly interfering with a deputy’s investigation and directing diesel exhaust toward the deputy and a person being interviewed.

On October 20, at approximately 1:30 a.m., deputies were conducting an interview at a business in the 2900 block of D Road when a truck unrelated to the investigation approached.

According to authorities, the driver, identified as Bladyn Richards, 20, began interfering with the deputy. Richards then allegedly intentionally expelled diesel smoke from the truck’s exhaust toward the deputy and the interview subject while driving away.

Additional deputies arrived and took Richards into custody. During a search, deputies found a small bag of suspected methamphetamine in his pocket.

Richards was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charges:

  • Obstructing Government Operations (Misdemeanor 2)
  • First-Degree Introducing Contraband (Felony 4)
  • Possession of a Schedule I/II/III/IV/V Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor 1)
