DE BEQUE, CO — A 35-year-old woman was arrested Monday evening after allegedly damaging multiple vehicle windows and later attempting to strike and spitting on deputies during transport to jail.

On October 26, just before 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to a verbal dispute in the De Beque area. During the investigation, they identified Casey Mathis, 35, as the suspect in the vehicle damage.

According to authorities, Mathis began attempting to harm herself while being transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. Deputies stopped to reassess her safety and found she had removed her clothing.

While deputies worked to make the situation safer, Mathis allegedly attempted to strike them and spit on them multiple times.

Authorities said Mathis remained uncooperative upon arrival at the detention facility, where an extraction team removed her from the vehicle to begin booking.

She was booked on the following charges:

  • Second-Degree Assault with Intent to Infect, Injure or Harm Another (Felony 4)
  • Criminal Mischief — $300 to $1,000 (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Domestic Violence

Authorities reported that Mathis remained in custody on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
