Multiple road-rage complaints involving a red Mitsubishi SUV were reported around 2:17 p.m. on westbound I-70 near mile marker 94. Garfield County deputies pursued the vehicle after reports it was traveling at speeds of about 120 mph and striking CDOT panels and cones. A Colorado State Patrol trooper was also responding.
The SUV later possibly struck a CDOT vehicle. Authorities requested a temporary shutdown of eastbound traffic at mile marker 62 during the pursuit, due to the vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. Radio traffic later indicated the vehicle was stopped and its driver taken into custody near mile marker 68. No injuries were reported in the Mesa County scanner traffic.
De Beque marshal assisted with traffic closures eastbound at the De Beque exit. Mesa County Sheriff responded from the Grand Junction Area with lights and sirens to assist, but later cleared off the call after Garfield County deputies took the suspect into custody. Colorado State Patrol is also dispatched to this incident.
Eastbound I-70 traffic is reopened.
Details are based on live scanner traffic and may change as official information is released.
