From the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office:
Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Investigators obtained a warrant for the arrest of Richard Lemus, 56, of Whitewater, for multiple counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child.
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, Lemus was arrested after showing up to meet with a 14-year-old female to have sex. Lemus thought he had been chatting online with the juvenile female; however, she turned out to be an undercover Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Investigator. Lemus was immediately taken into custody and transported to the jail.
Richard Lemus is currently being held in the Mesa County Detention Facility and is being held on the following charges:
- Internet Luring of a Child/Intent of Sexual Contact/Exploitation – Class 4 Felony
- Sexual Assault-Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child – Class 4 Felony
- Criminal Attempt – Class 5 Felony
- Sex Assault on a Child
Bond is set at $20,000.
