Update: Man Charged with Menacing and Assault

This is an update to a previous article: Felony Menacing with Knife, Ute Ave & S 4th St

From the Grand Junction Police Department:

Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of a felony menacing in the 200 block of S 4th Street on 09/28/24 at approximately 8:55 p.m. The reporting party stated a male approached several people in a parking lot, attempted to enter a vehicle that did not belong to him, and pulled out a knife before fleeing the scene. Officers contacted the suspect several blocks away and took him into custody. Keegan Batts (age 32) was taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility and charged with the following:

  • Menacing
  • Assault in the Third Degree
  • Criminal Attempt
  • Criminal Attempt to Commit Third Degree Motor Theft
  • Possession of Sch I/II Controlled Substance
  • Violation of a Protection Order
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer
  • Failure to Appear Warrant

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community. This case is under investigation and there is no further information available.
