Barricaded Male Arrested for Assault in Orchard Mesa

Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to an assault in progress call in the 2600 block of B ½ Road on 10/10/24 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Reporting parties advised 911 dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center that a female was crying and approached them, claiming to be assaulted during a domestic dispute by a male she knew. Officers attempted to contact the suspect, who barricaded himself in his residence. A warrant for the arrest of the suspect was issued and the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams were dispatched to assist. At approximately 4:15 a.m. on 10/11/24, officers successfully took the suspect, identified as Bucky Burke (age 46), into custody. Burke was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, False Imprisonment, and Domestic Violence, with additional charges pending.

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. A shelter in place was issued to 120 residents and has since been lifted. This incident remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
